Placidochromis phenochilus is living in intermediate zones from rocks to sand and above the sandbottom. They can be found north from Chirwa Island, most times in the neighbourhood of Chesese and Mdoka. This variant is from Mdoka. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 17 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 20 cm, females grow to about 17 cm. Placidochromis phenochilus is a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s possible to keep them together with peaceful mbunas but it`s necessary there`s enough space for them. In the lake they are swimming behind big fish which swirl up the sand in which they are searching for food. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. |
